Photograph of Frank Davis   Mr. Davis joined the joined the Structures Division in 1997, as and Engineering Technician. Recently, he designed a device to measure the stresses generated by alkali-silica reaction in concrete, measurements of chloride penetration into concrete, and hydration of mortars. He also participated in the testing of pavers at the U.S. Capital Building, and in a study of self-leveling compounds. Mr. Davis was responsible for all experiments needed for a round-robin to improve the ASTM C108 test. During his collaboration in the Inorganic Building Materials Group, he co-authored about ten papers published either as NISTIR=S or as papers in symposium proceedings.

Mr. Davis also worked in the Office of Weights and Measures, to calibrate scales under different conditions during 1988-1992. Before joining BFRL, he worked in the Engineering Mechanics Group, where, among other projects, he was involved in testing reinforcing steel rebars, side-door panels for State Police cars, and calibration of load cells.

Prior to this, Mr. Davis joined the Inorganic Building Materials Group in 1977. The emphasis of his work was on mechanical properties of adobe, the design of a micro-calorimeter for testing hydration of cement paste, the methodology to safely (due to asbestos hazards) replace the sprinkler systems on governmental buildings, the study of freeze-thaw damage in concrete, and a large experimental matrix to study sulfate attack, financed by the Nuclear Regular Commission.
