Bryan Klein is an IT Specialist in the Analysis and Prediction Group of the Fire Research Division. Prior to joining NIST in 2006, Mr. Klein worked with the Western Fire Center (WFCi) in Kelso, Washington for Approx. 5 years. At WFCi he filled a multitude of roles in the Fire Testing Laboratory environment. Mr. Klein has experience in; programming data acquisition systems, building data communication networks, configuration of Linux clusters, establishing laboratory data repository-archival, training users in the operation and optimization of models in a parallel computing environment, QA/QC management under ISO 17025, fire scene investigation, creation of relevant fire testing/modeling and testimony in a criminal trial along with civil case depositions. As a part of the Analysis and Prediction Group at NIST, Mr. Klein provides assistance in many areas of operation. Establishing modern best practices for FDS and Smokeview code development and distribution, archiving, bug reporting, etc. Assisting in the development of software in Fortran and C++ under UNIX and Mac OS X environments. The administration of a Linux cluster, internal to the group, for high-level fire modeling development and applications. As the FDS and Smokeview user liaison, Mr. Klein offers direct technical support, tracking bug reports and feature recommendations from the user community along with maintenance of the documentation for FDS and Smokeview applications. As a part of the simulation and reconstruction of actual fire incidents, Mr. Klein specializes in acquiring and inserting geometry, materials, and ignition properties into fire models and conducting parametric studies of ignition location, ventilation, and material flammability for specific scenarios. |
