Dr. McKnight's professional experience includes employment as an Industrial Hygienist with the Fission Products Inhalation Laboratory, Lovelace Foundation, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1966 to 1967; as a Research Associate for the Department of Chemistry, University of Nebraska, 1968, and for the Department of Physics, University of Virginia, 1974-1977; as an Analytical Chemist with Avery International Research Center, 1978-1979; and as a Research Chemist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 1980 to present. In the Building Materials Division, Dr. McKnight is responsible for planning and implementing research on coatings. Her duties include serving as leader of a project to develop improved appearance measurement and modeling procedures, and knowledge systems for coatings. Dr. McKnight has received numerous awards in connection with her contributions, achievement, and leadership toward advancing the standardization of coatings and lead paint abatement technologies. These include the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) William T. Pearce Award in 1990, the National Lead Abatment Council Technical Recognition Award in July 1993, the Technical Achievement Award from the Steel Structures Paint Council (SSPC) in November 1993, the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal in December 1994, the ASTM Award of Merit and ASTM Fellow in 1995, the Standards Engineering Society (SES)/ASTM Robert J. Painter Award for 1996, and the IAQ Publication Lead Industry of the Year Award in October 1996. She is chairman of ASTM Committee D-1 on Paints and Coatings, and of ASTM Subcommittee E06.23 on Abatement of Hazards of Lead-Based Paint; serves as secretary of ASTM E12.14 on Multi-dimensional aspects of serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), and is a member of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT) and the Inter-Society Color Council. |
