Dr. Zhao joined the Polymeric Materials Group as a NIST/NIH postdoctoral fellow of the National Research Council in June 2007. His research field is nanoscale chemical imaging on polymers, carbon nanotubes, and biomolecules under scanning probe microscopy and confocal Raman microscopy. Prior to joining Polymeric Materials Group, he was a postdoc at the Institute of Materials Science of the University of Connecticut, working on nanomechanical and electrochemical characterization of single living cells using AFM and functionalized single wall carbon nanotubes. Dr. Zhao attained his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in December 2004. His thesis topic was nanomechanical and electromechanical characterization on ZnO nanobelts using atomic force microscopy. Prior to this, he was an assistant professor and lecturer for six years at Zhejiang University in China, where he got his BS and MS degrees from Department of Material Science & Engineering. Dr. Zhao was a member of Materials Research Society (MRS) and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. He has published 14 papers in peer-reviewed journals with over 160 citations (SCI), and was first author of the book chapter, “Manipulations of Biological Structures and Molecules under Scanning Probe Microscopy.” |
